China is a developing county, with the development of economy and the demand of talented person, the universities gradually expand the admissions, so the number of impoverished undergraduates increases, which is about26%of the total number of university students. There are180non-impoverished undergraduates and160impoverished undergraduates. The collected data was statistically analyzed by SPSS17.0, the statistical method were chi-square test, T test and Pearson correlation analysis, and the results of the study:1. A ccording to the severity of mental health problem, the situation will be dived into3categories:First, the serious mental health problem; Second, the general ment al health problem; Third, well mental health condition; The distribution of number s of impoverished undergraduates in three types are not very different, but in non-impoverished undergraduates, the number of the third type which means good sit uation, is significantly higher than the number of the first type, which means seri ous mental health problem.2. In impoverished undergraduates, there are significant differences between genders. The boys are worse than girls in mental health.3. Through these findings, we draw the following conclusions:social support has an important impact on students’mental health and development of personality traits, and the development of impoverished undergraduates’mental health need more social support; As the mental health education in college, we should not only highly focus on the impoverished undergraduates’mental health problem, but also provide mental health education and counseling for impoverished undergraduates based on different genders.
