The whole volume of Uyghur Twelve Muqam (Mukam, Mukami, Makom) is aprecious gem in the splendid cultural-house of Chinese nation. It is a crystallizationof wisdom of the industrious and creative Uyghur people; also like an encyclopediaof culture and describing with words of music the Uyghur people's life in all aspects. The collecting and recording work of The Uyghur Muqam can be date back tothe year 1950. However, wordsof songs of The Uyghur Muqam were selected by classical poets who lived indifferent eras and regions, and had different cultural backgrounds. So, the title canalso be set as Initial Research on the Rhythms of Uyghur Classical Poetry. This paper includes six parts in all. The first part is an introduction, whichexplains the significance of the study and study method, as well as the contents ofthe dissertation. The second part discusses general studies of The Uyghur Muqam, explains theorigin of the word "Maqam" and the number of The Uyghur Muqam. The third part introduces the Uyghur Poetry studyand rhythm. It is necessary tointroduce them, because words of songs of The Uyghur Muqam were composed ofcarefully selected verses, Dastan and folk songs. The fourth part compared several versions of the words of songs of The UyghurMuqam and studied them separately. The fifth part is the most important part of the whole paper which mainlyintroduces Aruz Vazin, and compared the rhythm of the classic poetry. And then itcounts up the number of high frequency rhythms in Uyghur classic poetry. In the last part, it concludes the shortcomings that found during the research, and proposes prospects for future research.
