Reinstitution Of Traditional Graphics In Modern Plane Design

Our country's graphics arts have a history of over fifteen centuries. Before Chinese characters were created, ancient people had taken use of graphics to transfer information and communicate with each other. The graphics on the painted pottery of Neolithic Period and the drawings carved in the cliffs, which recorded the ancients'understanding of the nature and their wishes, are the oldest graphics art in China.The traditional art of decoration graphics formed on the base of Chinese specific history, culture, living environment, folk-custom and folk art, has taken in the virtues of native and foreign graphics in the long history and has become the precious cultural wealth of China and the whole world. In these days it is a focus to protect and inherit the traditional culture. Traditional art of decoration graphics, as the important part of traditional culture, also has to face the problems of inheriting and development.With the rapid development of science and technology we have already stepped in an age of high-level modernization and information techniques. New subjects, new materials and new techniques have been springing our every day and new concepts, new ideas and many new art concepts have a great impact to our traditional culture. Under this situation we face the problem how to understand the relations of traditional graphics art and modern design art, that is, how traditional graphics art develops and reinstitutes in the modern plane graphic design art. This is a critical problem for the designers and scholars. It is impossible to completely drop off our art tradition; however, we will lose Chinese character of art if we simply copy the modern western art. It is our common aim to rebuild our traditional graphics and to form new plane vision elements with both national characters and modern characters.The author has studied and worked in the field of plane graphic design for about ten years. Although not making great progress, the author has been working hard to make some contribution to this field. Therefore, the author wishes that this article could give some help to elementary learners.
