Copy former wirters'style is a fashion in medieval China. So that tide brought about lots of copying poems. West Jin Dynasty was beginning of copying poems and there existed a large quatity of them at that time. However, the academia held a bias towards them since Ming and Qing Dynasty. In recent years, many scholars brought up some penetrating opinions on LuJi's copying poems. But that was only limited in the discussion of style difference. This paper will take copying poems of West Jin Dynasty as research object and discuss its origin and development, reasons leading to it, its characters and its position.The preface of this paper discussed scholars appraisal of copying poems of liu chao andpresent research state. this paper is divided into four parts:Part one: in this part, the author mainly explores the origin and development of copying poems. Copy fashion in literature field should start from the time before Qin Dynasty and wirters mainly copy QuYuan's works. Copy was still a fashion in Han Dynasty and writers mainly did copy in one literary form-Fu. From later Han Dynasty until Wei and Jin Dynasty, copy object changed from Fu to poem. The first writer who expressed copy style clearly in the poem's title should be FuXuan in West Jin Dynasty. From then on, the writing of copy poems prevailed.Par two: in this part, the author mainly explores the reasons leading to the rise of copy poems'writing. Seeing from individual writing motive, there're two reasons. One is to study writing better, the other is the psychology of showing off one's brilliance and wisdom. Seeing from period factors, there're reasons as follows. One is the accumulation of literature legacy provided copy patterns for writers. The other is the effect of writing concept of literary circles and political, cultural environment of that time.Part three: characters of copying poems in West Jin Dynasty. In this part, the author mainly discuss that subject from three aspects. Seen from language use, copying poems using various rhetorical means were more polished than original works. Seen from the whold mood, copying poems were more implicit. Seen from emotion expressing, some copying poems were not that touching or to say moving as the original works.Part four: position and effect of copying poems. Copying poems held a high position and got good comments from literature criticism experts at that time. Copying poems improved the status of two type of poems which each setence contained five or seven written Chinese characters. They also advanced the polish process of poem language and initiated the copy fashion in poem writing. After Wei and Jin Dynasty, the phenomenon of copy fashion still went on and that is worth us discussing further.
