Adversative conjunctions are used to connect words,phrases and clauses which have adversative relation. It is a type of conjunction divided according to the significance, including"而,则,然,然而,然且,然则,顾,但,只是"and so on. After the unceasing development from Pre-qin to the Qing Dynasty, the system of modern Chinese adversative conjunctions formed finally. Researching the situation of adversative conjunctions in different historical periods and revealing their developing characteristics and rules, are the important topic of Chinese conjunction research. At present, There is little diachronic and comprehensive research about Chinese adversative conjunctions. This text is further research about the history of Chinese adversative conjunctions'production and development on the base of the predecessors'achievement. The key point of this text is researching the situation of adversative conjunctions in different times. the history of Chinese adversative conjunctions are divided into four periods which are the Pre-qin and Han, the Middle Ages,SongYuan and MingQing. This text mainly selected representative oral language materials in the works from the Pre-qin to the Qing Dynasty, and deal with them in the way of establishing Foxfro database. It analyzed the using characteristics and changing rules through the statistics of adversative conjunctions in different times. So we could understand the developing process of adversative conjunctions comprehensively.
