Analysing all of these materials, the beginning of the chariot's using may be in the early period of Shang dynasty. The institution of chariot made a rapid progress in Shang dynasty and became perfect. From Zheng Xuan' study in Eastern Han dynasty to nowadays, many scholars joined the research of the institution of chariot in ancient China. For many files of the pre--Qin was confused and in disorder, and different scholars had different comprehensions, the remains of chariot were not found, scholars made many mistakes.With the archaeology's development in China, its works made a great progress, many remains of the chariot have unearthed. They are real and detailed materials for studying.Since the foundation of the PRC, the research made the enormous achievement. It laid particular emphasis on institution of chariot and of chariot and horse device mainly. The Heng was an important component at the chariot in Shang dynasty, and regarded as its drawing and receiving position mainly and played an important role. In the research about the systematicness of it, what the scholar did is less. Among the research, for unclear understanding to the copper decorations, so caused the confusion named.The article mainly makes a systematic study of the remains of chariot of Shang and Zhou dynasty that were found. Based on the previous studies, with the help of the ancient files, the article deeply discusses the Heng and the correlative problems of the chariot during Shang and Zhou dynasty. At first ,there is a analyze about the style of Heng to make us have an understanding; then about various kinds of copper Heng decorations name and divide the pattern to various kinds of Heng decorations correctly by archaeological method, make a clear understanding to Heng decorations. Finally, the article would take a analysing to those similar copper decorations by its name and style, then make Heng decorations and Horse decorations be distinguished. Through a systematic study about the Heng and its decorations, make a detailed and deeply understanding of them, and to promote the research work of the institution of chariot during the pre-Qin period.
