In Wei-Jin period, there were a group of famous aristocraticfamilies appeared which conquered the ancient China for quite a long time,and they influenced its politics and economy from the 3rd to the 9th centuryof China in this period. These years nowadays, many scholars have donefruitful research on the families, and gained extraordinary results.However, the power of these families was reduced in T' ang Dynasty. Fromthen on, some common families took their place in the history, and theirgrowth and development cannot be neglected. The former research on thispart was limited. Due to this the author chose The Zhao clan in rianshui,which was a common family in its prime time in T' ang Dynasty, as the title.The paper contains 5 parts, in which the introduction describedrelative research in academic field as well as the aims, methods, researchbasis and meaning. So that it is expected to get a general sufficient viewof the development of the research. Some deficiencies of the previousresearch on The Zhao clan in rianshui were also put forward in the part.Partâ…¡is a brief introduction of the prime history of The Zhao clanin Tianshui, which concludes the origin and the development, the trace ofTianshui clan together with its geographical positions. It is hoped thatthis description will give an obvious understanding of its origin and alsoas a bedding of the following parts.Partâ…¢,â…£andâ…¤are the main body of this paper. In partâ…¢, to alot of inscription on the memorial tablet with the tombs and some relativehistorical materials during the old times, the author concludes 12tributaries of The Zhao clan in Tianshui based on the former research. Thepedigree tributaries shows that The Zhao clan in Tianshui was affected bythe centralizing in T' ang Dynasty, and they moved from Tianshui to thecentral guanzhong plain, its place as common clan, and became one memberof "centralizing" Due to this change The Zhao clan got a lot of distributors of the whole family. The author corrected some mistakes inTable of Prime Ministers in T' ang Dynasty in the new T' ang Book by carefulcomparing with the members of the Zhao's family recorded in the epitaphsand Table of Prime Ministers in T'ang Dynasty, added some lacking, forwhich would be useful for the further research in the academic field.Partâ…£is a detailed description of official career in the familyevery three years, one of the family member would appear on the politicalstage, which indicated its political power in the period of T' ang. Becausethey were common families, it was more difficult to get a place in the upperclass except for extraordinary out-of-commons. It is amazing that therewere more than 30 people who participated in the imperial examinationsbecame officers depending on their own literature and Confucianismaccomplishments. The family in the whole, have influenced the politics,economy and literature of the T' ang Dynasty, especially on its politicalsituation at than time.The paper also discusses the marriage situation of the family. Be arepresentative of common family, The Zhao clan usually chose aristocraticfamilies and senior cadre's children as their marriage objects, by whichthey improved their place in the political field. Meanwhile, they wereappreciated by the old aristocratic families because of the political placeand their literature achievements.The last chapter is about the culture of the Zhao clan. It shows theemphasis on the Confucianists' teaching of the clan, and therepresentatives of the family can be seen as the models for the wholesociety.
