A Research On The Lus' Clan From Wu In The Southern Dynasties

From the Western Han Dynasty when Lulie settled down in Wu eparchy,to the last years of the Chen dynasty of the Southern dynasties,there were more than 700 years,during the period,the Lus' development,especially political development wasn't plain-sailing,but political ups and downs tempered the family to get more powerful adability and vitality.Comparing with other families'abrupt rise and fall,the Lus didn't only survive the complicated political circumstance,but also kept unneglectable influence in the south of the Changjiang River,its development in the Southern dynasties could reflect political situation and cultural direction of the local,even the whole society to a certain extent.This paper divides into four parts.(1)The origin of the family name and its success.This part summarizes the Lus'history of the term between Xian Qin and the Western and Eastern Han Dynasties, analyzing with the official history still living to help us to review the origin of the Lus.After Lulie's immigration,the Lus rooted,grew and strengthened in Wu,at last in the Wei-jin and the Southern dynasties,it became the most representative scholar-official of the south of the Changjiang River.From this part we know that the Lus built up with politics,but depended on military exploit to achieve the summit.(2)The Lus' marriage and friendship.Along with the political recession of the Lus,bringing some corresponding changes to the family's marriage and friendship.Marriage meant great signality to the scholar-official,so they selected spouses prudently.I enumerate the family's marriages from the Sunwu era to the Southern dynasties with a tabulation.Besides the marriage,researching the family's friendship make a side learning of the family's status in the Southern dynasties.(3)The Lus and the politics of the Southern dynasties.By analyzing the chief members's official career,the family's act,behavior and effect in the Southern dynasties' political field can be revealed.Comparing these official positions,we can see that opposite to the depression in the Song-Qi dynasties,in the latter,the Lus also maintained the family by family-culture,but turned to be more active.There were some people trying for more approaches to be officials,such as devoted into army,in the hope of building up establishment.(4)The Lus'culture and education.Culture was fateful to the family,in the middle-latter period of the Southern dynasties,the family revived just because of its outstanding culture.The achievement of the Lus'culture mainly owed to the successful education,its continuity and systematism ensured the the culture's inheritence.The notion of the Lus' education is also useful for reference now.
