The Chinese classical aesthetics, which is composed of theaesthetic categories and the aesthetic propositions, is different fromthe aesthetics of the west. The category of the "Greatness" has beenexisting in the Chinese classical aesthetical thoughts for a long time.In the thoughts of the Confucian in the Pre-Qin Dynasty,"Greatness" was one of the ethical categories first. In the aestheticalthoughts of the Taoist in the Pre-Qin Dynasty, "Greatness" wasclosely associated with the central category "Tao"(The Way) in theTaoist philosophical thoughts. "Greatness" incarnates the naturedoing-nothingness of the "Tao" in the Pre-Qin Dynasty.The "Greatness" of the Taoist aesthetics differs fundamentallywith that of the Confucian aesthetics, which was confined bythoughts of fatality. The "Greatness" of the Taoist aestheticsmaterializes the power of natural doing-nothingness andomnipotence and is a boundless beauty.The "Greatness" in China differs with the category of the"Sublime" in the west. And it affected the Chinese classicalaesthetical thoughts of the posterity in China.
