Chenwei flourished in the West Han and East Han Dynasties, existed as a cultural phenomenon of Chenying although it declined from Sui Dynasty. As a major part of Chenwei, Chenying emphasized the exertion and deduction of Chen in Chenwei. Sanyan and Erpai were the most important colloquial short stories in Song, Yuan, Ming Dynasties, which symbolized the highest achievement of colloquial short stories in Ming Dynasty. It is helpful to know the living conditions of Chenying in Ming Dynasty by reading Sanyan and Erpai which wrote public's social life in detail.This thesis is to investigate the existing state of Chenying in Sanyan and Erpai based on the original texts of Sanyan and Erpai, its stylistic feature, Feng Menglong and Ling Mengchu's ideological trends. And the political, economic, cultural backgrounds and the citizen's mood in late Ming Dynasty are also taken into consideration. By analyzing the type, quantity, position and detailed content of Chenying in Sanyan and Erpai, the author tries to make it clear how the two writers construct and develop the plots, which helps to understand the reason why there are a large number of Chenying in Sanyan and Erpai and the effect to the development of the two novels by connecting the times background, the writer's creative motive, and the acceptance psychology. At last, the author researches different authors' attitudes toward Chenying under different cultural trends by comparing Xing Shi Yan with Sanyan and Erpai which belong to the same type, and investigates the development of Chenying in ancient Chinese novels by comparing the long novels with Sanyan and Erpai in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. |
