Studies Of Li Xuangong

"Tong Guang School" is an important poetry school in modern history. Li Xuangong isone of the leading exponents in the later period of Min Sect, which is one sect of TongGuang School. However, until recently there is only little study and research of his lifeand art of poetry creation.This article made a collection and sorting of the relevant literature of Li Xuangong,including his poems, articles, books and chronicle. The article further studied andexpounded his family background and life story, tabulated the pedigree chart and alsocompiled a chronology of him (attached at the end of the article)."Poem speaks for aspiration" is the assertion of Li Xuangong's poetry and his idea ofpoetry creation was mainly embodied in his work The poem ofShuo Guo Ting. His poemscan be classified either by contents or by styles. By contents, there were three types asmaking friends by writing and responding with poems to each other, reflecting the societyand current events at his time, and describing the scenery. By styles, there were two typesas 'obscure and miserable' in the early period or 'good at heaving sighs' in the laterperiod.The other major important works of Li Xuangong were Mo Chao Ci and The articles ofShuo Guo Ting. The Mo Chao Ci were mostly written for other's painting and the articleswere mostly prefaces and postscripts for the works of his teachers or friends, which havea certain value of reference on researching the life and work of persons at his time. LiXuangong was also one of the book and painting collectors in modern history. More thana half in his book collections were belles-letters, of which mostly were collected works ofmodern times. Meanwhile, there were huge amount of the original works of Yi Bingshou,which was a famous calligrapher. All of these provided valuable materials for the researchof later generations.
