Reduplicative adverb is a system that opens increasingly in modern Chinese. This thesis delineates the realistic appearance and the track of the development of reduplicative adverbs by the panoramic angle of view. The article carries out the synchronic description on reduplicative adverbs referring to the There-Level theory. It takes a diachronic investigation on reduplicative adverbs depending on the production of contemporary linguistics. Seven parts that compose the thesis are as follows:The introduction points out the reasons why we choose this subject. Then it puts forward the content of this text based on status quo. In addition, we explain the corpus used in this paper.Chapter 1 confirms the characters of the reduplication in detail. Then we conclude a chart on reduplicative adverbs according to the statistics of authoritative dictionaries and the principles which we settle on. In the end, we categorize the reduplicative adverbs respectively from outside form and inside structure.Chapter 2 studies the reduplicative adverbs on the Syntactic-Level. It emphasizes syntactic and match functions. The syntactic functions deal with the distribution of the sort of the sentences, grammatical functions and comparative sequence. The match functions involve the choice of the syllables, suffix, negative and the fixed combination. In a word, the reduplicative adverbs have abundant syntactic functions. And they have strong selectivity to the central and accessional composition.Chapter 3 analyzes the reduplicative adverbs one by one on the Semantic-Level. It spreads from semantic system, the function of meaning, synonymous field and semantic orientation. On the functions of meaning, we enrich them by describing the relationship between reduplication and the primary form's part of speech, the semantic category of reduplicative adverbs and the semantic item's change of reduplication and the primary form.Chapter 4 touches upon the reduplicative adverbs on the Pragmatic-Level, including modal analysis and mental structure. The modal analysis investigates the differences between reduplication and the primary form in three aspects which consist of the change of degree, the effect of expression and the type of writing. The mental structure part elementarily discusses presupposition negation and focus choice.Chapter 5 probes into the motivation of the forming of the reduplicative adverbs. And it predicts the trend on the basis of diachronic development. The conclusion refines and sublimates the argumentation of this dissertation. Then it indicates the research direction for the future.
