In the relation between the contemporary Chinese literary intellectuals and the revolution of China, Ding Ling was a typical individual case.Ding Ling, as a literary intellectual, used to walk a complex circuitous way with such a worried and painful heart which was full of self-contradiction. The identification with the Chinese revolution and the change of identity produced the effect and influence on her literature writing. On this very subject, up to now, so far as I know, yet few people seem to have made a deep and systematic research. Having sprouted in the Left Union Period, Ding Ling's identification with the revolution of China proceeded through both the War of Resistance against Japan and the long-term Liberation War of China, in the development of the Liberated Area with circuitous complications, became ripens with firm at last. Forasmuch I have selected this topic—the conformation of identity for Ding Ling during the period between the years from 1937 to 1949 in the aspects of revolution, national salvation, and enlightenment and the main current ideology as the object for my Master paper. In this paper, I mainly use the theoretical resources of literary research, from the visual angle of the conformation of identity, to discuss the relation of the change of Ding Ling's identity in the process of revolutionary identification, the phenomenon of re-composition of discourse caused by the change mentioned above and ideology—that is, the relationship of the three — cultural identity, literary discourse and political power; and through the further analyses of heranxiety about the identification and the language cleft, we could look into the complex relation between the revolution of China and Ding Ling , a intellectual ,as well as the contradictory inclination for literature and politics so as to reveal what "Ding Ling's phenomenon" means in the history of the contemporary Chinese literature and its limitation. In addition, I try to reconstruct the true relation between the writer and the text and the external world, in the attitude of savoring life, perusing the context mixed with the way of cultural criticism, making use of edition research accomplishment as well as cultural criticism, to exploit a new method for modern literary study.
