Born at the end of Nan Song Dynasty, Wang Ying-lin dared to point out the weakness of the politics though at that time the customs was so corrupted. Wang Ying-lin went back to his hometown when he found the dynasty was incurable. On the viewpoint of whether to accept or leave office ,he emulated Han-Wo and Sikong-tu, who would seek office when their Confucian doctrine could be put into practise otherwise they would resign . Besides write, he dedicated himself to teaching also, so as to hand down the culture.On the origin of his learning, affected by the style of the study of SiMing, and also by his family and his teachers, Wang Ying-lin took the theory of Zhu-Xi ,LüZu-qian and Lu Jiu-yuan concurrently. Though these three learns were at the same time, they all not matched well. The character of Zhu learns was to study thoroughly, Lu learns was to learn with the clear heart. As for Lü, he took the merit of them concurrently, but embellished them with the cultural heritage of Central plains. But Wang Ying-lin absorbed these three learns, from Zhu-Xi and LüZu-qian, he assimilated their strong points of documentation and the cultural heritage of Central plains respectively. On the viewpoint of philosophy, he expressed a tendency for adopting the doctrine of Zhu-Xi and Lu Jiu-yuan.On the study of Confucian classics, Wang Ying-Lin was inclined to restore ancient ways obviously. But he adopted the method of both Han-xue and Song-xue, having no sectarian bias, practically and realisticly. On the relationship of Confucian classics and history, he received the point of"six classics are history". He had also broken the bounds of classics and history, testified them each other, and commented on the history through the point of classics.In the past, the study on Wang Ying-Lin concentrated mainly on his documentation and historiography. But few were studied under the background of Neo-Confucianism of Nan Song, of the changing of the reigner, about the character of his learning and practice. Taking"ZheDong Learning"as the point of view , this thesis inquired into the character of his learning under the specific situation from two aspects, and also into his identification of confucian school in the practical way.
