The Characteristics And Pragmatic Mechanisms Of Short Messages In The Era Of Information

The Internet and the cell phone have become inevitable parts of people's daily life. Then, a new communication language emerges, which is different from other communication languages, namely, the Mobile Language, or Short Message. With the rapid increase of its popularity, the study of this new language style has received much attention in the field of linguistics. The issue falls into two lines: the discussion of mobile language's grammar and its correctness, and the discussion of the characteristics of mobile language. With the extensive study, it is found that this new kind of new words and new expressions can not only enrich Chinese vocabulary, and display the flexibility and diversity about Chinese vocabulary and grammar, but also demonstrate the returned and developmental use of Chinese traditional folk language style and Chinese traditional poetry, revealed the literality of the mass and the entertainment.However, the widespread use of mobile language does exert much influence on Chinese culture as well as the growth of youngster. So, it is of significance to standardize mobile language, to use it correctly, and to fuse it into Chinese vocabulary. Meanwhile, the research on the characteristics of mobile language is not enough. Therefore, the thesis tries to investigate the characteristics of mobile language at first, and then analyze it in the perspective of pragmatic principle, especially those humorous short messages. The relationship between humor and the pragmatic principle of short messages will be discussed next.The whole thesis consists of six parts:Chapter one is an introduction, which briefly introduces the general background of the study and emphasizes the significance and necessity to do this research. The layout of the whole thesis is also introduced in this part.Chapter two reviews related research on the mobile language. It begins with the research status quo, including the previous correlated studies on the mobile language in China. Both the achievements and the existing problems are presented. Then, the author proposes the preposition of the thesis.Chapter three is concerned with the concept and the content of mobile language. The concept of mobile language is explained and clarified in this part. The definitions of mobile language are also provided from different angles. As for the content standard, eight classifications are illustrated.
