Abstract/Summary:
The cultural exchange between China and Southeast Asia has a long history, and the exchange in food culture is its important part. This article focuses on the sythesized study of the exchange during Ming and Qing period, and talks about the propagation process and history of the Chinese food culture in Southeast AsiaThe article is divided into 4 chapters. The first three chapters give a systemic discussion of the exchange in food culture between China and Southeast Asia in three aspects: food materials, eating utensils and eating customs. They analyze how Chinese food culture affected the food and customs in Southeast Asia, including the production and use of food materials, cooking methods, the technologic and cultural features of eating utensils as well as eating customs, and at the same time summarize how China absorbed foreign food culture. Chapter 4 deals with the analysis of the propagators of food culture. The ambassadors in China and foreign countries, maritime merchants and overseaschinese played the role of bridge in the cultural exchange between the China and Southeast Asia.
