Society was rigidly stratified in Pre-Qin Period, flags serve as emblem of dignity and status at that time. Flags run through social activities from all kinds of respects. Through the research about flag system in Pre-Qin Period, we can understand the political system, thought and culture, social activities at that time more thorough and comprehensive.In the preface part, first of all, a summary is made for the predecessors'related research, Then put forward my viewpoint.This paper is divided into four parts to detailed discuss the flag system in Pre-Qin Period.The first part simply sets forth the origin and evolution of flags. Flags originate in the period of Yellow Emperor of the later part of the primitive society, which is developing from the totem or sign of clan or tribe. The flag is becoming more and more complicated and systematic through the developing Xia Dynasty, Shang Dynasty and Zhou Dynasty. Finally nine-flags come into being : Chang (a flag with design of sun and moon), Qi (a dragon flag with bells) ,Yu (a flag with design of eagle), Qi (a flag with design of tiger and bear ), Zhao (a long, square flag with design of tortoise or snake), Zhan (a flag with the same color), Wu (a flag with different color), Sui (an ancient type of banner hoisted one complete feather-decked mast), Jing(an ancient type of banner hoisted on two or more feather-decked mast). Every social estate respectively sets up corresponding flags. But up to the Period of Warring States, this system meets with destroy, so violate actions come out frequently.The second part expounds the constitution of flags.
