With the growth of international trade and cross-cultural communication, translation and its action-taker, the Translator is playing increasingly important role on the stage of this new century. With the support of theories concerned, the author tries to point out that Translators are now being"made", rather than just being"born". In this thesis, the author attempts to call people's attention to the translator by summing up the qualifications of the translator and discussing several key points in the making of a translator. Theoretically, this thesis hopes to provide a comprehensive framework of the affective dimension in the making of a translator. Practically, it can serve as a reference or guide for those would-be translators on their way to success.The main body of this thesis consists of five parts. Chapter 1 presents the definition of translation and translation theory as the literature support. Chapter 2 sums up 6 vital qualification of a potential translator after discussing the role of the translator: language competence; wide knowledge range; cultural attitudes; good writing,checking,revising and editing skills; willingness to work with machines for aids; essential senses. Chapter 3 introduces two translation methods: literal translation and free translation and two translation strategies: foreignization and domestication, with some examples. Chapter 4 discusses the standard and procedure of the evaluation of translator's work, which helps for better understanding of the training of the translators. Chapter 5 works on the necessary training a translator should take to become a well-round translator.The fundamental purpose of this thesis is not only to work as a guide for those who want to become professional translators, but also be helpful for the professional translators to clarify the standards of how to test their work。...
