A Study On Running The Academic Mode Of English Major In Institutes Of Physical Education

In the 21st century, the national strength competition (among countries) is actually the competition of the education and the quality of personality. Higher education of P.E. is responsible for the preparation of high level P.E. specialists and for the service of building a well-off society in an all-round way, and improving overall national strength. Since the reform and open policy, along with China's rapid economic development and national strength increasing rapidly Beijing has won the 2008 Olympics bid, and sports of China has made great progress. At present, the domestic and international sports events have been held, promoting the frequent human resources flow in the international sports area. The demand of English talented person in the sports domain grows day by day, the talented persons who just having the sports knowledge but less the foreign language exchange ability or who only being good at foreign language but lack of the sports specialized knowledge are unable to keep up with the development of China'sports. In order to meet the need of this new situation, the sports colleges and universities have set up a series of new specialties. One of them is English major in institute of physical education.With the methods of investigation and literature review, the paper makes an objective analysis of the internal and external circumstances for the major. It concludes the problems existing about constructing the major in institute of physical education, for instance, the orientation of major, the indefinite explanation of the relationships between English and sports, courses offered lack of distinctive feature, conditions of starting English major for improvement and so on. It also explorations on general plan of talent cultivation and the course design, guiding principle of the major, the long-term aims and directions as well as the specific operating methods and puts forward the corresponding mode.
