Jinglin School was a literature sect occurred in late Ming Dynasty. It had affected the literary world of the late Ming Dynasty for almost 30 years. Tan Yuanchun was one of the leaders and representatives of Jinglin School. His literary theory , his literary creation , his particular character and his personality charm had influenced greatly on the persons and the scholars at his same period. This essay makes a preliminary introduction to his personal reasons, the social reasons, his main theories and the features of his poems etc. The author assumes that this essay may have some help for the deeper and systematic realization of the Jinglin School.Firstly, his life experiences included his family background, the disappointment of his imperial examination, his eagerness of making friends and traveling etc. These were not only the important reasons why his ideas and creation about literature came into being but also an important part of the contents of his poems and prose.Secondly, the existence of Tan Yuanchun's literature theory and creation had its own cultural backgrounds, including the dark and corrupt political environments , the surging-forward revolutionary trends of thoughts, the popular and traditional custom of prolonged and intense contemplation and the prosperous and extreme critics .Tan Yuanchun's theories on poems and prose have the following three main aspects: the faith in golden mean of modeling both one's own current inner thoughts and the things happened in the old times, the creation seeking for honesty and kindness as well as the flexibility and the deep ,quiet and isolated objective for the appreciation of the beautiful.General speaking, Tan Yuanchun's style of poems belongs to the deep, quiet and isolated. But the poem's styles about different contents have a little difference. For example, the poems about the family living imply the sadness out of the innocence, simple and plainness.; the poems of describing making friends contain loneness among the deep and thick affections; the poems of mountains -and-waters involve in desolation from gentleness and quietness; and the poems of praising the things imply the hidden bitterness out of the coldness and subtleness.
