On the basis of the thoughts of traditional Chinese aesthetic education and the thoughts of western aesthetics, aesthetic education, psychology and pedagogy, Wang Guo-wei founded his thought of aesthetic education. The basic spirit of Wang Guo-wei's academic thought is emphasizing academic independence. The aesthetic education thought of Wang Guo-wei reflects the basic spirit, that is, emphasizing the independence of aesthetic education. The aesthetic education thought has five aspects, firstly, superutilitarian of aesthetic education; secondly, the purpose of aesthetic education, harmonizing sensibilities, edifying will and advancing the ability of aesthetic; thirdly, substituting aesthetic education for religion; fourthly, the relation between aesthetic education and intellectual education and the relation between aesthetic education and moral education; fifthly, paying equal attention to physical education, intellectual education, moral education and aesthetic education to train ideal human being. Academe's attention toward the above five aspects is mainly each aspect's meaning. They lack necessary ardor and attention for the inherent relationships in the above five aspects. Therefore, this dissertation discusses the cultural origin of the aesthetic education thought of Wang Guo-wei in order to dissertate theoretic origin of the independence of aesthetic education. Then this dissertation discusses the main ideas of the aesthetic education thought of Wang Guo-wei and its inherent relationships in the five aspects to dissertate the core of the aesthetic education thought of Wang Guo-wei, that is, the independence of aesthetic education. And then this dissertation discusses the meaning of the independence of aesthetic education, that is, paying equal attention to the four education to train ideal human being. Finally, this dissertation discusses contemporary value of the aesthetic education thought of Wang Guo-wei. It has a important significance on cultivating aesthetic personality and enhancing the integrated makings of human being and advancing the comprehensive development of human being.
