Many stories in Zuo Zhuan have become classics. This refers to the fact that during the long history ,these stories have been accepted and appreciated by the people(for example, readers, researchers, dominators and so on)and in the end transformed into classics, such as allusions, idioms and maxims, which could reflect special culture and heritage.Being classic of the stories in Zuo Zhuan means that many stories have been transformed into allusions, idioms and maxims. In this paper, we try to find out the reasons why these stories could become classics from the perspectives of the study of Confucian classics, historiography and literature(stylistics). There are mainly three reasons. First, the scholars who study Confucian classics hold Zuo Zhuan in esteem because it advocates that the dominator should respect the people, that the people should be pateriatic and loyal to the dominator and that the people should observe the protocol. Second, historians praise Zuo Zhuan highly because of its detailed and realistic description. Third, rhetoricians and writers appreciate Zuo Zhuan for its exquisite diction and terse style and they often make use of the stories in Zuo Zhuan when they write poems or articles. Therefore, we could gain the following enlightenment: if we want to advocate some values, it is better to tell specific historical stories than to write empty words; the writings could not last long if there is no exquisite diction, such enlightenment plays an important role in the development of literature.
