On The Particle Meaning And The Pragmatic Functions Of Bei As A Discourse Marker

"Bei" is a particle word which appears quite frequently in northern Mandarin spoken language. On the basis of preceding research done on this subject , this article comprehensively examines the category of the particle meaning of "bei", and also the discourse value of"bei"as a discourse marker .In the first part, we classify the particle meaning of the sentences with"bei"according to the function in the methods of the–smallest-difference antitheses, and get 7 kinds of'bei'sentences------imploration, order, suggestion, seeking notarization, representation, criticism and authorization.
