Law Department of Peking University is an original place of Chinese modern jurisprudence. The Imperial University of Peking(l904-1911) , from which subsequent Law Department of Peking University originate, tried to learn and imitate comprehensively Japanese law and political science. The law education had almost achieved a dominant position in institution, such as the Shixue Guan, Jinshi Guan, Yixue Guan, etc. The establishment of the law and political college, which is symbolic of separating from its status of appendage, begins to organize its own institution independently. During the Late-Qing Dynasty and the period of the Republic of China, these were not only complicated entanglements among law department, politics of reality and social circles, but its progress was also fluctuant.To implant the international law subject, basically speaking, they focus on realization of the real political function of legislation and law science, especially under the ideological trend of nationalism. Thus, they put it into a nation's enrichment and the track of building "civilized nation." It means "Science", as well as "Politics". Therefore, it is proved that the law science affiliates to the political science in the first place. After abolishing the Imperial Examination System, the law science, which was regarded as a new channel of increasing personal status and conversion of personal career, became universal and fashionable in society.
