Although both Li Yuanxing and Wu Yun are Taoists living in the Tang Dynasty, their thoughts of Daoism differ dramatically, and highlight different style of philosophy. Li Yuanxing, a writer of many false Buddist scriptures, was influenced heavily by Buddhist ideas, whereas Wu Yun, was always trying to return to the original characteristic of Taoism. Therefore distinct comparison comes into being between them.This thesis conducts a comparative study about their Taoist thoughts. It includes three chapters: Chapter 1 outlines Li Yuanxing's Taoist thoughts concerning ontology and Faxiang , essence of Dao and human nature, cultivation and so on; Chapter 2 introduces Wu Yun's Taoist thoughts about Universe creation, human life and cultivation skill; Chapter 3 includes a comparative study between Li Yuanxing and Wu Yun, as well as their Daoist thoughts. Generally speaking, both Li and Wu lived in the Tang Dynasty, which gave them a same social environment. Both of them emphasized human inner nature, claiming to seek the common places between human being and Tao from human inner nature; They recognized the myriad beings in the nature were governed by Dao, which featured emptiness, tranquility and non-action; Both of them respected the value of life, affirming human beings ought to have self-determination and subjective initiative, which reflected a positive attitude toward human life; They shared the similarity in the pursuit for cultivation of Tao, the ultimate goal for Daoist practitioners: returning to the origin of Dao by...
