Abstract/Summary:
"Western Marxism" was born in 1920s, and was based on the reflection of the success of October Revolution in Russia and the failure of revolution in Western Europe. "Western Marxism" based on Marxism, formed and developed in opposing dogmatism and integrating with western philosophy. It studied capitalist countries deeply and attempted to find a way for western revolution and human emancipation. However, till today, there are still controversy on a series of questions about "Western Marxism", such as what "Western Marxism" is, what the nature of it and what the significance of it.Just in this background, this paper chooses "Western Marxism" as the study object. Starting from the question of the nature of "Western Marxism", this paper analyses different views on it in national academe and clarifies the concept of it. Moreover, in this paper, the background of the rise of "Western Marxism"is presented and several schools of it is introduced and commentted. In addition, this paper makes a comparative study of "Western Marxism" and traditional Marxism. Finally, the correct attitude to "Western Marxism" is suggested, and the contemporary significance of it is given from two aspects—theoretical thinking and socialist buiding.I hope this paper can make people have a more thorough understanding of "Western Marxism" and provide some useful reference for the development of Marxism and the exploration of socialist road.
