Art education is the focus as well as theme of education reform in 20th century. The modern art education has a wide range which stretches from a special aspect to a scope, from the superficial to deeper understanding, from the phenomena to essence and from monism to pluralism. It has become a multi-layered and cross-subject. Under this context, it is significant to explore America which is famous for the advanced art education. Modern United States absorbs in and combines with the varied education concepts and modes, in addition, it initiates kinds of innovations that bring about different art education thoughts, such as the constant reform and numerous courses which may boast the first country and the garden and art education museum in the world. The paper attempts to study the evolution and development of American art education from different angles, setting from the angle of modernity and study it for the future use. It attaches great importance to both the new theories and the problems when putting them into practice; and also it focuses on the new informs and developments and on purpose study the concepts and practice of modern American education. How to appreciate this world rare flower, absorb it and put it into practice will greatly benefit the developing Chinese art education circle, offering supportive experience and theory.
