Tan-Renfeng, a radical democratic revolutionary in our modern history, contributed a great deal to the revolution. Based on the previous researches by others, my paper will have a try on his revolutionary activities and historical position. It contains 6 parts.Part 1 reveals the direct cause leading to his taking action against the Qing Dynasty. As a child, influenced by his family, he made a will that he would fight against the Qing Dynasty. What is more, the facts exerted great effect on his above will that he failed in the imperial exams and he was insulted by an official.Part 2 discusses the courses from organizing to transforming his secret society. His thoughts, during these courses, changed dramatically. Therefore at the beginning of the Republic of China, he put forward the idea of the reform of the secret society.Part 3 mainly talks about Tan's great contribution to the transform of the revolutionary strategy. In order to achieve his goal, he made great efforts.In the process, he established the revolutionary thought that they should be based on and revolute in the Middle China. Besides he paved a way for the foundation of the Party of Alliance. These efforts made it possible for the revolutionary transform from the Zhujiang Valley to the Changjiang Valley, which brought the peak to the Revolution.Part 4 is about Tan's activities after the victory of Wuchang Uprising. Faced with the endangered situation, he took action to defend Wuchang, organizing troops to aid Hubei and stabilizing the order of Hunan. He did a lot to protect the revolutionary fuits.Part 5 is related to his firm attitude in the fight against Restoration. He depicted the nature and danger of the negotiation with the northern regime. Besides, he insisted on arming to the teeth to fight against YuanShikai and supporting the Movement to protect the Republic of China as well as the Constitution Protection Movement.Part 6 talks about Tan's personality. It is his radical revolutionary thoughts and the upright and down-to-earth style that made him enjoy the popularity among his peers.
