This thesis documents Ligong's life experience. Based on Ligong's teaching experience, the author analyzes his role in inheriting and further developing Yan Yuan's theories. As one of most important representatives of Yan-Li school, Ligong inherited Yan yuan's theory on the relationship between Li and Qi, his Shixue thoughts that emphasizes the experience of practicing the Six Disciplines, his political proposal of equal land right with minimal taxation and unification of farmers and solders, and his unique method of self-improvement through writing journal. Ligong's important contribution to Yan-Li school is his own theory on explanation about investigate things to extend knowledge and the relationship between knowledge and action. Compared to Yan's theory, Li emphasizes the gradualism in the process of learning and the role of knowledge as the guidance in action. Li and Yan have differente view on methodolody and political ideal.Ligong established himself as one of the successor of Yanyuan's thoughts and Yan-Li school by developping Yan's theories throughout his lifetime. Due to his effort, Yan-Li school had significant influence in academia at his time. Ligong's thoughts of put knowledge to practical use to society and his philosophy of practice can be useful even in today.
