Research On Douglas Kellner's Cultural Critical Theory

With the advancement of Chinese modernization and the globalization, the cultural question has the significantly feasible significance day by day, the cultural critique becomes the more important theory topic which the contemporary academic circles pays attention to. Between the modern age and the postmodern age, Kellner's cultural critical theory moderates new situation of cultural study.Taking the Marxism philosophy as the guiding ideology and using the method of case study, this article has carried on the system explanation and the research to Kellner's cultural critical theory. It consists of the following three parts:First, this thesis analyses the origin of Kellner's cultural critical theory, including how to profit from the Marxism, the Frankfurt school and British Cultural Studies, proposing to construct the mentality of "the critical cultural research". Next, it expounds the concrete content of his theory and points out that his cultural critical theory displays mainly from the following view: localization of our current time: Between modern age and postmodern age, the cultural research angle of the modern theory and postmodern theory, and the research on media culture. Basing on the analysis of this theory, it evaluates his cultural critical theory and expounds his cultural characteristic, limitation. The characteristic of Kellner's cultural critical theory displays in: the cultural research between modern and postmodern, the synthetic study as well as its diagnosis research technique, and the cultural materialism research standpoint;Its limitation displays in: stressing to politics too much, turning to the postmodern area. Finally, the paper sums up Kellner's cultural critical theory's significance for our country's modern constructing. Kellner's cultural critical theory is good to enhance the cultural and mortal construction, to absorb the other cultural critique, to make our belief and stand of the Marxism become firmer, it provides us much active experience and many thoughts to build the Chinese characteristic socialism.
