The abundance of measure words is the characteristic of the Chinese language, which put the foreigners into trouble while they learn Chinese. But examining the studies of measure words shows that although we gain many achievements in these studies, we seldom connect them with the SLA studies. Although all those achievements can benefit the Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, they themselves can not explain why the foreign learners still make mistakes after they have already learned the grammar and the rules. So only concentrating on Chinese grammar and rules is not enough, we have to pay attention to the learners and their interlanguage to make clear many problems confusing the researchers. This research, basing the SLA theory, uses the case study and the survey study to describe the course of acquisition of measure words, the acquisition sequence of different kinds of measure words and the learning strategies. According to these outcomes, it evaluates if the textbooks are properly arranged. So this research offers a criteria for the textbook editing and teaching. The analysis of the data of the case study, the survey study and the questionnaire shows the characteristic of the course of acquisition of measure words and the problems emerging during the course. Meanwhile, it also shows that those problems, in some degree, derive from the teaching itself. So in order to make the teaching be suited to the inherent laws of the development of the interlanguage, this research give the advice of amendment to the current textbooks. First, make the same measure word appear regularly in different volumes of the textbooks; second, make the different parts cooperate with one another; third, make the introduction of the grammar and the rules well completed; forth, help the learners develop the learnability; and the last, distinguish those measure words which are easy to confuse with each other. |
