Wang Ji was an important writer in the Early Tang Dynasty. He had become one of the focus of literary research in the Early Tang Dynasty and had been paid close attention to by researchers from then on. The study of Wangji has an great achievement in the past, especially the reappearance of the anthology of Wangwugong made a more progress in the study of Wangji than before. Because the documents of Wangji is so lack and unclear that it has became a great limit on the study of Wangji. So many subject of Wangji have not unanimous standpoint in academic circles up to now. These problems are mainly his being an official and seclusion , thought and formative cause of literary style etc.Therefore it is very necessary to make a further study for Wang Ji. This thesis answered these problems more or less by careful analysis and study of the exant documents of Wang Ji.On the problem of being an official and seclusion of Wang Ji, the thesis investigated the reason why Wangji had been listed in the Biography of Hermits. Meanwhile, the reason why Wangji has been an official and retired thrice was carefully investigated and discoveried by this thesis. So the thesis argued that it is justified in listing Wangji in the Biography of Hermits by two Tang Dynasty History. The thought of Wangji is firstly divided into two periods in his life by this thesis. It concludes that the overturn of Sui Dynasty is the watershed of conversion of his thought. The early thought of Wangji is mainly Confucianism in earlier stage of his life. He intensely want to be an official in that time. But he has also complexly unorthodox thought such as Yinyang and Magic etc. The reason why Wangji's thought is so complex is that he has been affected by the learning of his family and the Hefen Academy. The later thought is the most complex in Wangji's life. He firstly experienced the anguished conversion of his thought from Confucianism to Taoism. He does not desire to be an official in government.
