In the 1920s and 1930s, especially after the breakout of the September 18th Incident, China was thrown into such kind of juncture that border incidents were troublous while foreign invasions were incomparable. The border problems in the North West China had been paid with great attention. And in the 1930s and 1940s, the problem of the North West China had been the focus of the media, the politics as well as the circle of literature. North West development had been attached with due importance that lots of special report as well as the professional studies were endued to it at that time. During this phase, the process of North West Development was speed up. And education in the North West border of China was the crucial element for the development.This thesis narrows its scope into three chapters.Chapter one is a general survey on the formation of the North West development. It explores the media and academic studies during 1930s and 1940s to highlight the significance of this great cause;Chapter Two gives a brief introduction to the education of North West border in the years between 1920 to 1940. Through a detailed study on both the causes that makes the education lag behind and the undeveloped situation, this thesis points out the significance of the education in the North West Border;Chapter Three carefully explores the education in the North West border during the phase of Development from the management, the content and the measures of the education;This thesis aims at the exploration of the education in the border and the attentions been paid to by studying the education during the North West development. It demonstrates that academic studies and theories had provided the references for the authority at that time to implement their policies. Moreover, those theories are still helpful in developing the North West education at present. At last, this thesis draws a conclusion that the education in the North West border during 1920s and 1930s is to some extent an important stage of modern national education.
