Higher education in China has shifted from "elite education" to "mass education". With the ongoing university expansion, more and more senior middle school students can step into the tower of ivory to further their study. To make College English teaching keep in line with the fast development of our country and meanwhile to ensure it as a natural and effective continuity of English teaching in senior middle school, the author, based on an extensive research on the reality of English teaching in several universities, comes up with a deep reflection on the matter.English teaching has its own characteristics and rules, where the English teaching both in senior middle schools and universities constitutes an organic whole. Therefore, attention should be paid not only to integrity and extensiveness but to gradualness and connection, so as to guarantee a natural and reasonable transition. In this paper, which falls into four chapters, author tries to probe into the transition from senior middle school to college in English teaching.Chapter One gives a brief introduction of transition study.Chapter Two illustrates the transition of teaching materials. Compared with teaching materials for senior middle school students, textbook for college students is characterized by its difficulties, more contents and less teaching periods. Therefore, so far as the editing of teaching materials is concerned, we should keep in mind whether they are systematic, coherent, conforming to the laws of language learning; whether they can embody the distinctive modern times; whether they are attractive and readable, during the process of which, the students' physiological and psychological traits, their basic skills as well as language performance and communicative competence should be taken into consideration in efforts to improve their comprehensive qualities. |
