English teaching between college and senior high school should be an organic integration, which is one process and two different sections. The purpose of English grammar teaching in senior high school is to make students master the necessary grammatical knowledge while the English grammar teaching of college is to be familiar and use these grammatical knowledge based on what have been learned by students in senior high school. The content of grammar teaching in senior high school and college have different emphasis. So the effective coherence between them concerns the improvement of students’ English abilities. But for a long time, each of them follows their own policy, never knowing each other. As a result, both of them can’t be coherent effectively especially grammar teaching, which influences the improvement of English level. So the transition of English grammar teaching from senior high school to college becomes an urgent problem to be solved. The author carefully collects and sorts some literature about grammar teaching from domestic and foreign. Students from senior high school and college and college English teachers are investigated and interviewed in order to understand the situation of English grammar teaching in senior high school and college. On the one hand, at high school stage, students have basically finished all the grammar knowledge. At college, students consolidate and use these grammatical knowledge based on what have been learned in senior high school. On the other hand, students do not like the grammar classes; grammar knowledge is weak; some teachers very focused on grammar, while others don’t teach grammar at all. From interviews with teachers, college teachers generally think that students’grammar is weak in reading and writing. And college teachers seldom attach importance to cultivate the ability of students’ grammar skills and application because of CET-4and CET6’pressure.This paper thinks that the incoherence reasons of English grammar teaching between senior high school and college are as follows:First is the problem of teaching materials. Compared with high school materials, the content of college materials are much difficult for students to master it.Second is the problem of teaching method, teachers pay more attention to explain the knowledge and memory in the classroom, ignoring the students’ autonomous learning ability. The skills they know come from non-stop doing exercise. What’s more, they get used to learning under the teachers’instruction.According to these problems, this paper proposes some strategies on transition of English grammar teaching.First, teachers’ teaching grammar consciousness should be strengthened. Senior high school teachers need to strengthen the consolidation about students’ basic grammar knowledge and college teachers need to improve their ability to use grammar knowledge.Second, college teachers should strengthen the cooperation and communication with high school teachers.Third, three teaching methods, the creating context teaching, comparative study on grammar teaching and popularization in explaining the terms can help students to understand and application the grammar better.Based on the above points, this paper aims at grammar teaching in college students, taking the application of the non-finite verbs in writing as an example to do an action research. Through the grammar teaching plan, students’ grammatical competence and comprehensive application ability can be improved. The text is divided into six parts.Chapter1introduces the background, the significance, the objective and the structure of this thesis.Chapter2shows the literature review of at home and abroad.Chapter3talks about the current situation of English grammar teaching in senior high school and college and shows factors contributing to the grammar teaching incoherent problems in senior high school and college.Chapter4introduces some strategies on transition of English grammar teaching from senior high school to college.Chapter5focuses on action research, the authors tried to study the non-finite verbs in the application of writing as an example.Chapter6is the last part, the conclusion of this thesis including some restrictions of the study.
