From Body Discourse To Body Writing

Body discourse, which emerged at the end of the last century, has been considered as one new subject under discussion not only in the world academic field but also in Chinese Literature. It is beyond controversy in the study field of critics that Body Discourse should be employed to explore Literature and Arts in the new times. In this paper, the author mainly discusses why and how Body Discourse emerged and expounds how Body Discourse is employed to criticize and analyses the phenomenon of Body Writing, which is developing in Literature and Arts of the new times.In this paper, the author proposes that the meaning of BODY, which has loomed in Polato's works and distilled in the state of asceticism at the period of Christian theology, is not merely in its physiological sense, but as an appendage to the opposite of rational knowledge: perceptual knowledge. The author also holds that BODY, which should include sense impressions of BODY and is closely related to society, power and moral principles, is a complex cultural representation.In western society, there has been existing dichotomy of Body and Spirit .From the period of ancient Greece, there has been a trend of depreciating sense impressions of Body. However ,Nietzsche ,as a forerunner ,has rethought the ignorance of the sense impressions of Body .Foucault considered BODY as a observing and thinking angle to think ,explore and explain history .Therefore ,Body Discourse can be regarded as such a critical activity: managing to explore various kinds of theories and social ideology attached to BODY and illustrating that the study of Body Discourse is not aimed at recreating a new so-called BODY theory, but restoring and exploring critical practice .In Chinese Literature, BODY has also been neglected for a long tine, even in the period of the May 4th Movement, in which sense impressions of BODY just attracted some attention, but is quickly weakened by selfish departmentalism of people in the revolutionary ideological trend. In the Literature and Arts of new times, there appeared the phenomena of Individual Writing, Feminist Writing, Body Writing, Breast Writing, Prostitute Writing, and so on. The study of Body Discourse can provide the theoretical basis for those phenomena in which BODY itself attitude toward BODY handling and sense impressions of BODY are involved .Body Discourse is not merely a enlightenment campaign to seek oneself .Although the criticism of Body Discourse and the phenomenon of Body Writing is exceeding the proper limits in righting the lack of individual perceptual knowledge in Chinese aesthetics and literature of the 21th century ,they can be regarded as a kind of annotation to Human Literature .
