To differentiate from traditional ontology, based on 'the spirit of tolerance and experiment', Willard Van Orman Quine, the up-to-date famous American logician, philosopher, as well as founder of logical progmaticism, has put forward a new concept, that is, 'ontological commitment', which has from a new angle what a theory commit is proved the relativities between quantification and existence, logic and ontology, through lingual and logical analysis, and thus restored the status of ontology in analysis philosophy. The advance of this concept has attracted great attention in today's American philosophy field, and been considered as a betrayal to logical empiricism. But at the meantime of solving some problems, Quine's 'ontological commitment' has also caused some new ones. What is the reason for the trouble then? And how to coordinate these paradoxes? From "the spirit of tolerance and experiment", the paper reinterprets it based on the following four parts, trying to give a reasonable explanation to 'ontology problem'.â… . The result of Quine's 'the spirit of tolerance and experiment'-'ontologicalcommitment'; In this part, first, I give a brief explanation to the principle of the spirit of tolerance and experiment, which Quine's 'ontological commitment' is based on; then, introduce the background in which Quine brings forward his concept; last, give a detailed demonstration on the reasoning process of Quine's 'ontological commitment', which is relative to a certain frame and a certain system.â…¡. The value and existing troubles in Quine's 'ontological commitment'; Ontology, which was once kept out of the door by logic, is recalled through Quine's theory of 'ontological commitment'. And Quine's theory develops Ontology from a new meaning and founds logical progmaticism. Although Quine's theory has solved some problems, it has also caused some new ones.â…¢. The analysis on the reason for the troubles of Quine's 'ontological commitment'; What is the reason for the trouble then? And how to coordinate these paradoxes? This part gives a significant thought and resesrch on these problems.â…£. Talk about the other logical treatments on 'existence' in history.
