| Quine is an important figure in the history of analytical philosophy. His contributions, such as the thought of holism, the theory of ontological commitment, and the theory of meaning, are an indispensable part of the development of analytic philosophy.Among them, his referential theory closely links language, logic and philosophy, providing new directions and outlets for interdisciplinary research on referential issues,as well as new methods for exchanges and cooperation between different disciplines.Systematically sorting out this theory will not only make the research on the referential problem more profound, but also help the construction of a complete referential theory by discovering its flaws. This article is divided into four parts to discuss Quine’s theory of reference. The first part explains the background and significance of the topic, the current situation at home and abroad, the research content and methods.Through combing the background and researching the current situation, grasping the latest research trends, lay a solid foundation for the analysis of Quine’s theory of reference. In the second part, the evolution of reference theory is described by using the research method of integrating history and logic.Through the analysis of the development of referential theory in different periods, this paper improves the theoretical basis and basic content of Quine referential theory. The third part analyzes the subtle relationship between Quine’s referential theory and ontology.Quine tried to introduce ontology into the practice of linguistic reference, and put forward the viewpoint of ontological promise for further discussion. The fourth part,by studying the debate on certainty and uncertainty in the history of philosophy, emphasizes the importance of uncertainty in the research of reference philosophy, and then further discusses Quine’s uncertainty thesis, showing its significance in the theory of reference.Important position, and its own breakthrough research value. |
