Abstract/Summary:
Traditional calligraphy of inscriptions on bones is the origin of its modern form. It contains the artistic genes upon which modern calligraphy of inscriptions on bones has lived and evolved. Due to the over 3000 years' historical crack of the calligraphy of inscriptions on bones and the inappropriate approaches of its modern artistic conversion, such as complete imitation or neglect of its traditional form, its artistic conversion presents a uniqueness in modern context. Therefore, this paper will probe into this issue from the following aspects: 1. Idealistic Conversion: from religion to art. 2. Technological Conversion: from inscription to calligraphy. 3. Modal Conversion: from orginal to evolutive. 4. Diffuse Conversion: from storage to exhibition. The above aspects constitute the broad connotation of the calligraphy of inscriptions on bones. Through the comparison between the traditional artistic form in Yin and Shang Dynasty and the modern form in present times, the paper is aimed on the discussion of the inner rules of its artistic conversion in order to conclude the artistic standard of it, thus offer proper criterion for the judge of the artistic conversion of calligraphy of inscriptions on bones. The material, the inscriptive and the spacial characteristics, as the main artistic standard of the calligraphy of inscriptions on bones, constitute the main criterion of the judge of it. As an experiment on the study of the artistic conversion of this calligraphic form, the paper points out that the main cause of the failure in the artistic conversion is the neglect of its artistic standard; thus the artistic conversion of modern calligraphy of inscriptions on bones ought to stick to the artistic standard through the reliving of its traditional form and melt into it the individuality and personal artistic taste. Only in this way can an artist enter the world of the creation of calligraphy of inscriptions on bones and achieve the favorable evolvement of its modern form.
