Form Characteristic Of Shituo's Novel

Shituo's creations have unique personal style. His early works express the strong lyrical breath and complex emotion to his homeland, which makes him rank among the modern literary world and takes his own seat. During the war of resistance, still living in Shanghai , he insists on creating . But part of his works have been treated coldly because its do not conform with the mainstream aesthetic rules. From the end of 1970 , Shituo began to be studied among the domestic scholars ,and before this Xia Zhiqing's " The History of Chinese Modern Novel "was also comcerned by the researchers of the mainland of China. Shituo ,Shen Congwen , Qian Zhongshu , Zhang Ailing have been entered the literature researcher's vision . But most of the comment on Shituo, concentrated on politics , culture . There are few people pay sufficient attention to the form character of Shituo. This text attempts to comment on the unique form character of Shituo's novel. China's modern novel is influenced by western theory in form. Instead of transplants the wet theory storytelling novel simply Shituo draw nutrition from traditional Chinese historical literature and storytelling novel , try to adopt multi-angle way to narrate and express complicated life experience boldly. All this shows that Shituo alone is different from the contemporary writers . Besides preface and conclusion ,the text includes three parts. The first section discusses the exploration of Shituo in short recreation and the influence of historical literature on him. On the exploration of short recreation, he has more innovation than inheritance. He has not observed " cross section " theory on the short novel, but explored a kind of new style according to his own life experience and the aesthetic standard. Some chapters of GU and LI MEN SHI JI are a case in point. The historical literature has extremely important influence on Chinese literature . The taste for the historical works from a child nurtured his deep aesthetic consciousness .It embodied: On one hand , he did not use the method of traditional novel but incline to the method of " biography body " on the novel structure. His works often tells a man's whole life with the short recreation,such as " Master of City " , " Liu grandfather biography " . On the other hand, his works has stronger historical consciousness full of grave and stern historical senses .For examples , one is his description of the declined residence of orchard city, the other is the show of the character's historical destiny of Kuiye ,Sugu. The second section discusses the glamour that the story brings with storyteller's intonation. Though the narrative way of" Telling " has weak points in a way, it links up and adopt literature history. It communicates modern literature and traditional literature at aesthetic consciousness. In Shituo's works, " storyteller " begin to change form tell history and carry on morals in ancient to tell the historical changes in his vison and incorporating many individuals' life experience. The "storyteller" is playing an important role in the narration of his works.He is the organizer and commentator of the whole story ,and bearing the function of exchanging with readers. The third section discusses the reformation of Shituo on the form of the long novel , it mainly probes into the application of narrative way form many angles. " Ma Lan " just expresses intellectual's contradiction attitude in ideal and reality through this way ,and figured the image of Ma Lan with distinct individual characters . " Marriage " use different narration angle in two parts from head to foot and triumphantly figured a artistic image —HuQu-e, showing the moribund and degenerate of enemy-occupied area in Shanghai. In these two long novels, the constant conversion of narrative angles and the moral judgment embodied by the story content is ingenious combined together which added artistic charm for his writing, at the same time it also improve beneficial exploration for the novel form of modern literary world.
