Abstract/Summary:
Though people's independence journal had a short history, it was one of the most powerful newspapers disseminating the democratic revolution. Thus there's much more research value on the newspaper. However at present the research was not enough in academic circles and it was only limited in fragmentary and micro recounting. The thesis will make a macro look into the newspaper combined with the background of that times so that we can make clear the opinion trend and the status of the newspaper.People's independence journal, donated by the capitalist class mainly from Jiangsu and Zhengjiang province and founded by the revolutionary group, was a national and nongovernmental newspaper with strong political comment character. A group of modern capitalist intellectuals convened at the newspaper office. Based on the spirit, the newspaper put propaganda emphasis on calling on the people to overthrow the bad Late Qing dynasty through revolution and build a democratic and republic government. Before the 1911 Revolution, its reports focused on the urgent and dangerous condition home and abroad, the dynasty's corruption and incompetence, the fraud of forged constitution etc. As a party's newspaper, it also took the responsibility of contacting the members and arranging the activities of the party. After most of the provinces declaimed independence, the newspaper turned into publicizing how to build a new government. Responsible cabinet, parliamentary politics, unicameral legislature and centralization, which were mainly embodied in the political essays written by Song Jiao-ren and Zhang Shi-zhao ,were the political opinions firmly claimed by the newspaper.
