Four high-tech manufacturing Joint ventures invested by globally well-known Conglomerates from Britain, United States, Germany and Japan were chosen to represent diverse cultural, political and market backgrounds. A total of 760 testees selected were of Chinese native language, covering five different typical occupations. The research used MBTI-M Chinese version revised in 2003 as the tool for personality profiling. All of the four chosen companies have had outstanding performance in their respective industry, and their staff have been screened & filtered over time. Therefore it is believed that their employee's personality should be already well adapted to their occupation. Further research was done by comparing the performance review provided by respective HR departments to further understand and define Adaptive ness of personality with the five occupations.1. Management: The personality that is most adapted to middle and upper class managerial positions are mostly E-J combinations, with the typical core function of NT. It was also found that the SF core function has very good performance in a deputy/assistant position (o an NT function manager. Typical personality types for middle and upper class managers are ENTJ & ESFJ. For lower level managers or supervisors the most important personality characteristic is TJ combination, S (Sensing) is an independent but also very important feature. I (Introvert) personality on average performs beeter than E (Extrovert). Thus the typical personality type for lower level managers/supervisor is ISTJ2. Engineers & Technicians: ISTJ is the typically adapted personality to technical positions. T (Thinking) and J (Judging) are their most important characteristics. It was also found that some NT function personnel are very suitable for R&D work.3. Sales: With sales occupations, STJ combinations are most adaptable. In addition, E (Extrovert) covered 90% of the sales personnel. The typical personality type for this sector is ESTJ4. Production: The influences of personality dimensions on production workers are rather independent. S (Sensing) is the most influential attribute, followed by E (Extrovert). J (Judging) is in the third place. And the last is T (Thinking). Typical personality type for this sector is ESTJ.5. Clerical & Secretarial: IS-J combination is most suitable. Further more, F (Feeling) personality takes a much bigger percentage, but in some cases T (Thinking) personality shows a better performance. The typical personality types for this occupation are ISFJ & ISTJApart from these suitable personalities, It was also found that three out of the four companies' technical teams contained low performing ESTJ types. This is believed a flaw in the personnel configuration. Reconfiguring according to the analysis of this report should bring distinct improvement, which will be the next step of this research.
