Self-concept includes what one thinks or knows about the self (self-knowledge or self-awareness) and what he evaluates the self (self-esteem). It's an important component of preschool education to help and instruct young children to develop positive self-concept.Teacher's evaluating style and approbation have a profound influence on young children' self-concept.Teacher's evaluating style is what teachers form from daily teaching practice in a long time, a unique combination and reflection of stable viewpoint, language and manner of evaluation.Teacher's approbation to young children is the viewpoint of a student the teacher develops includes his knowledge and judgments about the student according his inner standards. This research consists of three parts, through which a combination of quantitative and qualitative methodology was adopted.Part one discussed the preparation for instruments. The recomposition for A Pictorial Questionnaire of Young Children's Self-Concept was finished through an inquiry of 179 young children to verify its validity and reliability. Part two investigated the impact of teacher's evaluating style on young children's self-concept by inquiring children and class observation. Part three probed the impact of teacher's approbation to children on their self-concept in four sub-categories of relevant studies. The research results suggest that:1. Teacher's evaluating style has an obvious influence on young children' self-concept. The "concrete-democratic" evaluating style is helpful for the development of young children's self-concept, while the "curt-autocratic" evaluating style is harmful for their self-concept development.2. Teacher's approbation to young children has an impact on young children's self-concept through three ways.3. Teachers as an important factor will influence the development of young children's self-concept both directly and indirectly. In the indirect influences, young children's peer has an important function in teacher influences on young children'sself-concept. And the teacher's influences on young children's self-concept have three mechanisms, which are induction, assimilation and transformation.3. The factors from teachers' self and society baffle teachers to help young children to develop positive self-concept. It is very important to promote teachers' professional attainment to help young children to develop positive self-concept.4. A Pictorial Questionnaire of Young Children's Self-Concept has good validity and reliability for inquiring children's self-concept.This research will enrich the field of children's self-concept study in China. And its results provide a theoretical foundation for young children to develop positive self-concept, and some suggestions for creating good environments for young children to develop healthily. What is more important is that the results will make teachers be more aware of their importance in children's development, and help themselves develop in their career life.
