The culture centre of China moved southwards during the Five-Dynasty, while the economy centre moved to south in the late Tang Dynasty. So there were two culture centres in that time, South Tang and Former-Latter Shu. Among the ten kingdoms, South Tang was the strongest in the politics, economy, military, culture , etc. Its region almost equal to today's Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi and a part of Fujian and Hubei, which was one of the most developed areas of china. The culture of South Tang was the most prosperous and its historic effect was the strongest in the ten kingdoms.West Shu was a area with obvious geographical features. Its natural condition was very difficult, so West Shu was relatively independent and safe. But there was a Sichuan basin about 20 square kilometers where the economy was very booming. It was said that Yangzhou was the first and Yizhou(West Shu area) was the second in Tang Dynasty. The culture in this area was very flourishing and special long ago. During Former-latter Shu, it also was magnificent.This thesis chooses the culture of South Tang and Former-latter Shu as the object which intends to inspect the difficult features , reasons and the effects by comparing them.There are four parts in this thesis.The fist part is outline, which mainly introduces the research situation about the culture of South Tang and West Shu, and illustrates the methods and the historical date used in this paper.The second part is the main contents which consists of the chapter two and three. This part inspects the culture in the two areas respectively from literature, art, history, education, religion and so on. It was shown the two areas were the most developed culture centres in the south during Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms years. There were a lot of brilliant culture achievements in this period.The third part is the chapter four. This is the emphasis of the paper. It explores the difference between the culture in the two areas and analyses the various factors that affected their development. Then, it points their status in Chinese culture history. We...
