For the past century, a lot of research has been done about Hanyu and other supporters of Ancient Chinese Movement; however, most of the research is about some essays. For example, research of Li Ao tends to focus on his Complexity, which essentially turns Li Ao into a subject for philosophical study while not much research has been done about Huangfu Shi. Some research does mentions Huangfu Shi as a figure in the Qijue School, but most research did not give enough emphasis on their being a very important schools in the ancient Chinese Literature in Tang dynasty. This thesis works on giving a true picture of the supporters of Hanyu' s Ancient Chinese Movement, or the Han Disciples. The method employed is to analyze and understand their thoughts via their writings. In addition, related biographies, comment made in later generations, and social and cultural backgrounds in the medium and late Tang Dynasty are also refered. The paper consists of four parts, 1) the formation of Han Disciples, 2) Han Disciples and Ancient Chinese Movement, 3) writings in Ancient Chinese by Han Disciples, 4) individual analysis. This paper will analyze the background of the formation of Han Disciples, their relationship with Han Yu and the relationship among the disciples, and relationship to another school of thoughts, the Yuan Bai Group, and then come to the conclusion that Han Disciples, as the supporters of the Ancient Chinese Movement initiated by Han Yu, were not members of a group; between them they had a very frank friendship, but their relationship was not close. They were just a member of a school of thought, and had not formed a group in their writing and they repelledother people with a different thoughts on literature. Although they respected Han Yu as the initiator of ancient Chinese movement, supported the movement, f ighted with Pian Wen, and made a lot of writings in Ancient Chinese, nevertheless they had not been able to completed the Ancient Chinese Movement as Han Yu would have it.To sum up, this paper intends to give a true picture of the history and summarize the literature pieces at that time, by studying the Han Disciples. I hope it will be instrumental in further reseach on the Ancient Chinese Movement in Tang Dynasty.
