| It was the goal of this focus paper to present a strategy for growing, maturing, and empowering disciples at the Chinese Presbyterian Church of Orange County. The church's simple mission statement is “ to develop fully committed followers of Jesus Christ.” The subject of this paper addresses how the church might fulfill its mission statement with a Biblically based and culturally relevant ministry strategy.; This study will be divided into three major sections. The first section will look at the current ministry setting: its history, its demographics, the community surroundings, and its ministry strategies. The second section will look at foundational theological issues that will undergird a strategy for developing fully committed followers. The three foundational issues to be explored are the Kingdom of God, the work of the Holy Spirit, and the priority of worship. The third section will develop specific strategies and proposals for developing fully committed followers of Jesus Christ. These strategies will focus on the spiritual disciplines that Jesus taught, demonstrated, and practiced in His life. These disciplines to be practiced are solitude, silence, fasting, frugality, chastity, study, prayer, celebration, worship, and service.; The study concludes that when CPCOC begins to seriously practice and train in being disciples and students of Jesus, CPCOC will begin to produce, both in depth and in number, fully committed followers of Jesus Christ and thereby fulfill her mission statement. |
