As. an officer in Qing Dynasty, Hu SiJing was clear and upright, scrupulously abode by the duty, and impeached all corrupt officials, so he enjoyed very high reputation in Jiangxi and even the whole country. After entering the Republic of China, Hu Sijing lived in hometown, on one hand, he felt extreme agony to the fall of Qing Dynasty, then he began to review and summarize the experience and lessons of the fall of Qing Dynasty, which leave the lessons drawn from others' mistakes for latecomers; on the other hand, he joined in the sea of the book, writing books to expound a theory, putting the ancient book in order, and kept a large number of local social documents of Jiang, noted the social current situation at that time too, had left a lot of precious historical datum for us.Hu Sijing was not the lonely one, he had a group of friends with a common goal, they and Hu Sijing had similar experience and psychology. As famous trerminal gentries in Jiangxi, Hu SiJing and his friends lived in the modern millennia tremendous change, in the face of the collapse of Qing Dynasty and autocratic monarchy, and the invasion of the unprecedented Western imperialist powers, they were standing at the traditional politics and culture obstinately, were hostile to the western civilization, and hated to all changes that took place during latter Qing and the early stage of Republic of China, refused to accept the great change of the society, and all became "old fogies of the Former Qing Dynasty" who refused to accept Republic of China.The life and psychology of the old fogies were the indispensable one point in the kaleidoscope of the Republic of China. What they stood was what the traditional society believed in, was exactly what the new time objected to too;and what they objected to was what the traditional society was scarce, was what the new time advocated exactly. Perhaps between the objection and the advocation we can understand the modern Chinese change more deeply, and grasp the process of the modern society more comprehensive too.
