Literariness And Alienation Of Western Modernistic Literature

Nowadays, we are in a reading-picture times and it is an unarguable reality that literature is becoming the verge of art. Inquiring what is literature is the obstacle on the developing road of the subject, theory of literature. And then, scholars joined in the discussion about characteristics of literature just for the legal status of theory of literature as a subject. Furthermore, as the spreading of the theories of the "post" , the literary intelligentsia appealed for the spreading of literariness to open up a beautiful vista of literary studying. They tried to consider all kinds of discourse experience of humanity as overall literature interdisciplinarily and claimed the former is the special examples of the latter. It' s well-known that the theory of art and literature is a subject of modern academic system, researching the system knowledge of literature. It is production and reproduction around literature. To our regret, the subject based on literature forsook literature just like a pair of broken shoes. Now, I want to give it a new name, playboy. So, literature was not only on the edge of art but also on the border of theoretic attention. Meanwhile, literariness depending on literature was put on the stage as the core of literature theories. How could we explore literariness on the condition that literature was impossible? Could literariness and modern literature each go its own way? Where would the feather stand when theskin was absent?On condition of modernity, it is necessary for us to re-explain literariness. For me, however, we can' t pass over literature. The essential way to explore literariness is to explore the relationship between literature and culture, literature and social modernization. Today, cultural criticism arouses a public clamour and we have to inspect the role of literature and the two above relationships. M. McLuhan divided the history of literature into three stages according to the quality of the medium: From primitive society to printing -times was the first stage, printing- times was the second stage, novel' s times, and the third one was electronic times. I think modernistic literature was just the golden age of novel' s times. And at the time of this stage, the relationship between literariness and literature was uniquely close. Just as Mr. zhang Fa said, "I can say, a kind of literariness which distinguishes between literature and others took its shape chiefly at the novel' s times and it was the only suitable times. " This article begins with the alienation (craziness) of the western modernistic literature and through the analyses of alienation, we can see that the unprecedented alienation of the western modernistic literature is just contest between literature and culture. The tension gives new times connotation to literariness. Besides, "ugliness" "absurdness" "mythology" were the parody of modernity in the languages of modernists. Modernistic literature awakened people' s sense of alienation and stimulated their introspection about modern culture when it recorded, accused universal alienation phenomenon of human being' s living.
