This study assessed the relationships among growth need strength (GNS), perceived job characteristics, job satisfaction, and four demography variables (sex, age, education, position), using a sample of 500 working adults from three companies in Tlanjin. Results indicated that GNS was positively related to perceived job characteristics and job satisfaction. And perceived job characteristics were positively related with job satisfaction. Perceived job characteristics were found to mediate the relationship of GNS and job satisfaction. Factor analysis was employed for the 15-item and the 24-item job characteristics survey, and comes with a 3-demension and a 5-demension result respectively.. Employees with or above undergraduate academic credential scored higher on growth need strength than those with or below college academic credential. Managerial personnel were more satisfied of their jobs than normal staff, and they scores higher than the latter on perceived job characteristics. Based on regression analysis, a model was put forward. And recommendations for future study were suggested.
