THE ENDEAVOR was established in 5, 1922 by Hu Shih , Ding Wenjiang and so on , which aimed at discussing social problems. It marked the formation of intellectuals of China who believed in liberalism, and it also provided a platform for them to illuminate their propositions and participate in the rebuilding of politics. There were three influential arguments between the batch of intellectuals led by Hu Shih and other groups which were the debate about doctrine of good government, the discussion province-joining Autonomy and the polemics between science and metaphysics. These arguments not only propagandized their viewpoints and enlarged their social influence. This thesis tries to give an overall study to THE ENDEA VOR for a better understanding about Chinese intellectuals believing in liberalism.In the first place, the paper discusses the background of the establishment of THE ENDEAVOR from three aspects: social environment, the split of intellectuals and their economic independence. Then it gives a thorough introduction of the establishment of THE ENDEAVOR and the basic viewpoints of its main sponsors. Next it analyzes two groups of the authors and readers of THE ENDEAVOR , pointing out that their same educational experience and interests cause them come together. In addition, it expounds the main dispute in THE ENDEA VOR in order to demonstrate the influence of it. At last, the author explains the reason why THE ENDEAVOR stopped publishing in 1923, at the same time, gives it a total evaluation.
